In 2001 I threw my acoustic guitar and accordion in the trunk of my Buick Century and drove from St. Louis down to Atlanta to spend a couple of days recording in my friend Christian's home studio. I knew Christian from internet music chatrooms and had never been anywhere with a multitrack reel to reel. I had accumulated this collection of songs hanging out at 720 Interdrive in the University City Loop, which was a hub for a bunch of friends doing a bunch of dumb stuff.

I drove off back to St. Louis and while I was waiting for mixes I ended up writing and recording what would become Midwest American Nightlife on 4 track. Eventually Christian told me he couldn't get mixes he was happy with (probably because I suuuuuck ha ha) so he offered to send me the original reel and I accepted, but I had no way to play the tape. In 2007 when we were working on the third album for my punk band The Pubes I had engineer Brian Scheffer fly the tape at his recording studio Firebrand, but I was so sure the recordings sucked I made him keep the speakers off and just put it on a hard drive and forgot about it.

I was buzzed enough late night in late 2018 to remember this and decided to dig up the drive I had this album stored on, loaded it up and hit play. It's as amateur as I still am to this day but it also was all there, better than I expected and the only document of these songs, which in retrospect is a perfect capture. So, here's an album that took 17 years to come out, because I'm a stupid jerk.
